Critter Oil® for Dogs and Cats
1. 32oz Bottle of Shampoo: Combine one (1) measuring scoop (1 tsp) of Critter Oil® and two (2) ounces (4 Tbsp) of Original blue Dawn dishwashing liquid or blue Ultra Dawn in a 32 oz bottle and fill with water. NO, it will NOT dry out your pet’s coat for two reasons; first, Dawn is proper animal ph and second, Critter Oil® absorbs into the hair follicle to condition it. It doesn’t just coat it with a layer of grease like some conditioners. It is possible, but not recommended, to ad Critter Oil® to other pet shampoos, however, after 20+ years of using it with Dawn as well as testing many, many other shampoo bases, until we develop our own shampoo base, blue Dawn is definitely the most effective base because it totally emulsifies the oils throughout the mixture plus it will help strip off old body oils and dirt allowing Critter Oil® to do it’s job fully. Do not use other forms of Dawn because we have found them to be less effective. Never use a shampoo base or any product labeled “anti-bacterial” on yourself or your pet! These contain the highly dangerous chemical Triclosan, a major ingredient in Agent Orange!
For animals with highly oily or dirty coats, or severe skin or flea problems, we recommend highly that you mix up a second 32 oz bottle of just blue Dawn in the same 2 oz (4 Tbsp) dilution, and using it to do at least one, if not more than one, quick wash and rinse of the pet in order to remove much of the dirt and oils prior to using the Critter Oil® solution. Then, apply the Critter Oil® formula and allow it to soak on the animal for at least 10 minutes or more to increase its effectiveness.
2. 16oz Bottle of Spray Mist or Rinse: Combine one (1) measuring scoop (1 tsp) of Critter Oil® with 16 oz of water. Shake thoroughly before each application and then spray on your pet before going for a walk or pour on after the bath. These techniques will increase the effectiveness of the product and aid in soothing and healing skin. Also use spray on furniture and when dusting or cleaning
3. Critter Oil® Carpet Powder: Combine in a large bowl or pot, two (2) measuring scoops (1 tsp) or a full ½ oz bottle of Critter Oil® with a 32oz box of baking soda and stir with a fork until the oils are fully absorbed by the baking soda. Add this to approximately ½ of a box of Borax (found in the laundry detergent and water conditioner section of the grocery store), and a box of table salt. Blend the ingredients thoroughly and put into a shaker container. Arm and Hammer puts out a new pet oriented carpet powder in a shaker box. This is handy because you can slit the lid of the box around three (3) sides, empty the box into a large pot and use it as your baking soda base. After blending all of the ingredients, re-fill the box, tape the lid shut; then shake the powder on carpets and furniture. Allow it to sit for a couple of hours then vacuum. Put the remaining carpet powder mixture in a zip lock bag for future use. Also, please use a metal or stainless steel bowl for mixing purposes. Critter Oil® absorbs into plastic and will render it unusable for food preparation or storage.
Because of the effectiveness of the Critter Oil® Carpet Powder formula, you will find it unnecessary to re-treat the carpet for many, many months. Possibly never again if you use Critter Oil® in all of its many ways combined with the recommendations found in “The Healthy Pet Handbook”
4. Other Combinations: If you have hardwood or tile floors, mix a scoop of Critter Oil® and a very small amount of Dawn with your mop water or use spray formula on your dry mop.
